Girl Talk: Wrapping the Scarf

It normally takes me seven to eight trials before having my scarf beautifully wrapped in a way that suits my face. It is the most tedious aspect of my morning formalities before leaving home for work. The reason is very simple. Each fabric has its own unique texture and wraps differently. When you begin wrapping a scarf, you must properly layer its foundation; it has got to be done smartly.

African women styling is a unique and well-rounded process all by itself. They wrap their head for different events. Though, tying the scarf involves different approaches, depending on the clothing or textile being used in the process, also depends on the occasion. Wrapping the scarf at night for bed does not involve so much work as compared to wrapping it for a wedding or graduation party. The material can either be silky, triangular or rectangular, consist of the batik or even African wax designs.

Knotting The Scarf

Knotting it the right way
You simply need to cover your head off-center so that the ends of the batik, wax lappa or silky scarf, hangs down the body.  Gather the ends of the scarf at the back of your neck and cross them behind your head before twisting the ends. When nicely twisted, lay the rope-looking twists along the front edge of the scarf over the forehead and tie the tips to form a knot. It is also easier to avoid cutting the hair when the knot is brought to the forehead. Some hair could be trapped when knotting the tips at the back of your head.

Letting It Reign!

African women wrap their heads for numerous reasons: hairstyling purposes, religious reasons and as a symbol of responsibility in society. Some Muslim women, for instance, wrap their heads with scarves in keeping with certain aspects of the Islamic religious tradition.  In Islam, it is required for women to be modest. They should cover their beauties --- their hair, in this case --- when in public. However, once at home, among family or in front of their husbands, they are free to go scarf-free.

Night Wrapping

With relaxed hair, wrapping is bound to form part of your night time rituals. Hair scarfing is certainly one way to keep the hair under control while sleeping because it relaxes the hair and keeps it ready for combing in the morning.  It helps to keep your hair straight and prevents it from breaking. Because the fabrics of a silky scarf are smoother, they become the best material to use when wrapping your hair to relax it.

  1. I love finding articles that present readers with different fashion ideas. Wearing scarves on your head is a really unique way to wear one. If you do it correctly, it can really look cute and help brighten you outfit. There are also other ways to wear Scarves for women. For example you can wear them around your wrist next to your watch or other bracelets. you can wrap a bundled scarf around you neck in a contracting color. You can also even wrap a scarf around you waist acting as a belt. All you just need to do is tie a nice secure knot in the front. However, my new favorite way to incorporate scarves with my outfits is by tying them around high boots. I usually use handkerchief style scarves because they drape nice against boots or high shoes. This technique is great because it allows you to wear scarves in the spring and summer.
